Harvest Time

As a little girl my family would go to the church farm to pick corn and then we would spend, it seemed, the whole day husking it. I remember having the same nightmare over and over every year we did this. My nightmare was...

I was sitting in my bed husking corn and there was corn husks pilled at the foot of my bed with the hairy stuff all over me. (Now anyone that has ever husked corn that was not purchased from a grocery store knows that corn in full of earwigs). So now add that to the nightmare -earwigs crawling all over me and by bed, just falling out of the husks. Now you can see why I would call this a nightmare.

So I was husking corn to freeze and Benson was anxious to eat it. I told him we had to husk it all first so we could cook it. He started to help me husk, hoping to eat it sooner, but soon gave up and just started eating the corn raw, which of course it is yummy just the same.
