My Little Garbage Disposal

We live in an older home built in the mid 1950’s and so, as with most houses built around that time, we do not have a dish washer or a garbage disposal. But who needs a garbage disposal when you got Grant? I am afraid I am going to have an obese child. Seriously. This little man can eat, let me tell you. So my sister in law was watching the boys for me on Tuesday nights when I had mutual. I always fed them dinner before I would take them over there, but she would just be getting home from work so she would have to make herself dinner. When I came to pick them up one night, she said Grant (after I had fed him dinner) ate almost an entire box of Mac N’ Cheese then 2 banana’s afterwards. Now for a 16 year old boy that may not be surprising, but at 15 months?? (He will actually be 18 months Oct. 31)

A few weeks ago we had breakfast burritos for dinner and Grant ate all his dinner like normal. Well, an hour after dinner Grandpa stopped by so I made a burrito for him too. He sat down to eat and Grant wanted to eat his, he wouldn’t leave him alone. So I gave Grant a little more of his own to eat, which he scarfed down in no time, then got on the table to help Grandpa eat his. I ended up giving Grant 2 slices of zucchini bread on top of all that, all within the time Grandpa ate his dinner, so that he wouldn’t have to share with Grant.

At dinner almost every night, as soon as Grant is done eating he gets on the table and moves from plate to plate to help everyone else finish theirs. I don’t know what to do. So you say, limit him. Right that makes since. But have you ever deprived a child of food who “thinks” they are starving? It is very sad. He eats non stop. I will say with in the last couple months he has thinned out a lot because he is moving around EVERYWHERE and into EVERYTHING. He eats all day, so it’s not like at the end of the day he is especially hungry.

In the morning Josh eats with the boys before he leaves and I end up eating an hour later because of my thyroid medication. One morning about a week ago I found myself trying sneak into the kitchen to quietly pour myself a bowl of cereal. Then when I said the blessing on the food I prayed I could eat my cereal without Grant finding out. I never, in my life, would have dreamed I would be praying to eat a bowl of cereal in peace.

I know some children cannot feel when they are full, but I have just come to the conclusion that I am a very very good cook.
